What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a popular permanent solution for patients seeking that white natural looking smile. For patients that have broken, damaged, or missing teeth, dental implants are the perfect choice. Implants act similar to an artificial tooth that is placed in the jawbone. Implants are highly durable and are built to last upwards of 25 years.
What to expect if I have decided to move forward with dental implants?
The dental implant process typically takes multiple appointments in our office. The first step involves placing the implant in the jawbone. Once this is complete, there is a healing process that must occur. The healing process gives the implant time to fuse to the jawbone. The patients must have enough bone present in the jaw to provide the necessary support for the implant. If necessary, bone grafts can be done to give that additional support that is needed.
Once the healing process is complete, the patient returns to our office to complete the implant process. A connector or abutment is placed on top of the implant, and this allows the crown to be affixed securely on top. The crowns are custom made to match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth. Temporary crowns are also used while you wait for your permanent crown to be ready.
