What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are shells that are tooth colored and bonded to teeth. Veneers match the shade and color of your natural teeth, giving patients the perfect natural looking white smile. Veneers are used for stained, misshapen, uneven, or chipped teeth. They are made out of a porcelain material and are very durable. Veneers last between 10-15 years, and their life depends on how much wear and tear the veneers face over time.
Who is a good candidate for Porcelain Veneers?
Patients that have had multiple dental procedures, and as a result have discoloration on their teeth are good candidates for veneers. Patients that have stains from food or drugs can also benefit from veneers. Veneers can be used to close gaps in our teeth, create an even smile, and look natural. Gum tissue tolerates porcelain material very well, and veneers are extremely stain resistant.
How are Porcelain Veneers applied?
Porcelain veneers typically take more than one appointment in our office. A preliminary consultation is required to discuss your goals, and determine a customized treatment plan. X-rays are taken to help give us the details needed for treatment.
When you return to our office we remove a portion of the tooth enamel to prepare the teeth for the veneers. Molds are taken and are sent out to a lab to prepare the veneers. Once the veneers are ready we fit you for the veneers, and check the color to ensure they match perfectly with your natural teeth.
Your teeth are cleaned thoroughly to ensure the veneer adheres properly to the tooth’s surface. Special cement is used to place the veneer on the teeth. An ultraviolet light is used to help set and harden the veneer quickly. Overall, the process takes a few weeks from start to finish.
We require patients to return a few weeks after their veneers have been placed. This is to ensure everything is still looking and feeling great. Veneers are not invasive and are a less extensive procedure, giving patients a beautiful white smile.
